Wilderness Adventures
For
a real adventure, we can take you into the Bob Marshall Wilderness,
via horseback and raft, to fish the pristine South Fork of the
Flathead River. The "Bob", as this vast wilderness area is known,
is adjacent to Glacier National Park, forming a huge backcountry
area.
We'll join up with wilderness outfitter John Way for this
ride in - float out adventure! The west slope cutthroats are as
large and numerous as anywhere in the western U.S. Some scenic
mountain lakes and streams can be fished on this trip as well.
This 5 - 7 day expedition is one you'll long remember! Prime time
is late July through August. The fish are easy and abundant. It's
a throw back to the "good old days"!
Reservations need to be made well in advance.
What to Expect: After flying into Helena, Great Falls
or Kalispell, we will pick you up and get your fishing licenses
and any last minute items. We will then travel 1-2 hours to lodging
and dinner. Please arrange an early flight, as we need to get
all gear to the horse packers by 6:00 p.m. the night prior to
our first day into "The Bob".
The
first day of your trip begins at 6:00 a.m. with a hearty breakfast
followed by a drive to the trail head where we will meet up with
our horses. This day will be the longest, riding horseback for
7+ hours. The scenery is breathtaking, and offers the possibility
of seeing an abundance of wildlife including black bears, an a
occasional grizzly bear, elk, deer, mountain goats, wolves, eagles,
osprey, hawks, plus many more. Once at the first day's camp, you
will have time to hike, wash in a near by stream, possibly fish,
or just relax while we set up camp and prepare your dinner.
Day two is generally a shorter horseback ride, ending at our
launch point on the South Fork of the Flathead in early afternoon.
You will have the remainder of the day to wade fish, while we
set up camp and prepare another feast in the Rockies.
Each
day thereafter will begin with a hearty breakfast. We are usually
on the water around 9:00 a.m. and fish five to fifteen miles per
day. 50+ fish days are not uncommon, as West Slope Cutthroats
averaging 12-22 inches are easily taken on large attractor patterns.
Bull trout up to 15 lbs. are often seen, but are currently in
a "no catch" status. You can expect camp to be set up when you
pull ashore and a gourmet meal in the works.
The
river journey will end at Meadow Creek Gorge in early afternoon.
From here you may choose to walk or ride out via horseback approximately
one hour to the pick up point. Once at the pick up point you have
the opportunity to be driven or flown out. We can arrange a charter
flight to pick you up and add an adventurous twist to your Bob
Marshall experience. The flight will be about 20 min. to Kalispell.
This charter service also offers scenic flights over the Great
Bear Wilderness, Bob Marshall Wilderness, and/or Glacier National
Park. Whatever you decide we are sure you will have an experience
of a lifetime.
